PFAS Water Contamination May Have Contaminated Every Military Base That Used Firefighting Foam

Water Contamination Lawsuit News

Thousands of lawsuits could target 3M the maker of toxic firefighting foam

Sunday, October 2, 2022 - Millions of US marines and all other branches of the service that lived or trained at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, USA, for a total of at least 30-days from 1953 to 1987 may now file a cancer lawsuit against the federal government. Those who were potentially affected by the toxic, carcinogenic drinking water include civilian government employees and contractors who worked on the base during that time. The young families of those living on the base were particularly susceptible to the ravages of cancer from drinking Camp Lejeune water. Thousands of women drank the camp Lejeune tap water and have experienced a higher rate of miscarriages, birth defects, and stillbirths as a result. In addition to the millions of servicemembers who developed cancer and perhaps died directly as a result, millions more service members drank PFAS drinking water at hundreds of military bases scattered throughout the country.

Toxic, carcinogenic PFAS forever chemicals were allowed to drain into the underlying water table on the base whenever local firefighters on the base trained with firefighting foam made by 3M and other manufacturers. Individuals from each of the demographics listed above may be able to file a drinking water claim against the federal government or other responsible company if receiving a positive cancer diagnosis from an independent physician and can prove to have been exposed to tainted water. Servicemembers, reservists, and those living off-base in adjacent housing, including young families impacted by contaminated drinking water can seek substantial lump-sum monetary compensation for their medical costs, pain, and suffering as a result of exposure to PFAS in the water through PFAS cancer lawsuits and water contamination claims. 3M Corporation is defending themselves for negligence in causing hearing loss in soldiers that fought in Iraq and elsewhere overseas, and hearing loss during training on firing ranges and the loud noises of operating heavy machinery. Firefighting foam may be the greatest polluter of all and ingesting PFAS forever chemicals may surpass even toxic weed killers as being most damaging to human health. Each military base and airport in the United States are required to train with and use firefighting foam to extinguish jet-fuel fires that could potentially cost hundreds of lives in a mass-casualty accident. The US Navy started using firefighting foam back around 1970 in response to a fire on the USS Forrestal vessel that claimed 147 lives. 3M was the manufacturer back then and did little to warn the government or others of the risks of PFAS forever chemicals that comprise the jet-fuel fire retardant. Lawsuits today are being filed by those that live on or around the military bases where firefighting foam was used for developing a long list of cancer. Thousands of individuals may have died as a result of PFAS forever chemicals from firefighting foam bio-accumulating in their bodies to carcinogenic levels. Forever chemicals have strong molecular ties and do not break down organically to a compound that the human body may dispose of through elimination or other means.
