Thursday, July 14, 2022 - Everyone should get their tap water tested for the presence of carcinogenic PFAS forever chemicals. Most every American is being forced to ingest toxic quantities of carcinogenic chemicals in the food and water they ingest. Forever chemicals, as the name implies, are the byproducts of modern-day manufacturing of certain materials that are used in cooking, clothing, and home decor. Toxic Forever chemicals are used to manufacture Teflon non-stick cookware, Gortex waterproof clothing, Scotchgard draperies, upholstery fabrics, and stain-resistant carpeting. Forever chemicals have an extremely strong molecular bond and efficiently repel other liquids and solids they come into contact with. Unfortunately, they do not break down organically in the soil or water when disposed of. In addition to the sources of contamination listed above, almost every US military base, airport, and municipal firefighting station use firefighting foam to put out petroleum and jet-fuel fires. PFAS forever chemicals also bio-accumulate in the body when ingested through drinking contaminated tap water, or when eating fruits and vegetables. PFAS forever chemicals are ingested in much greater concentrations when one eats beef, pork chicken, that have been raised on PFAS drinking water. PFAS forever chemicals are even starting to show up in bottled water thought to be pristine as well.
An article recently highlighted the problem that is evolving in the bottled water industry. An article titled, "New Study Finds PFAS in Bottled Water, as Lawmakers Call for Federal Limits" investigated about 100 brands of bottled water and concluded that water branded as "purified" was more likely to be contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals than the ones that earned the "spring water" designation. Consumer Reports.org, wrote, "Some noncarbonated bottled water products sold in the U.S. and tested as part of a new study contained potentially toxic PFAS chemicals, prompting calls for the federal government to set standards covering the chemicals. The study, published in the journal Water Research and led by Johns Hopkins University researchers, detected PFAS substances in 39 out of more than 100 bottled waters tested, in some cases at levels deemed concerning by water quality experts." Both the US Food And Drug Administration and the Environmental Protections Agency are passing the buck of responsibility for establishing maximum levels of PFAS forever chemicals allowable in bottled water. The EPA regulates tap water and the FDA regulates bottled water and both are on record as saying that tacking the bottled water-forever chemical problem is not a top priority for them. The current PFAS forever chemical limits are "voluntary" and not enforced at 70 parts per trillion but experts think that levels should be no higher than one part per trillion. Independent testing found that about 40% of the bottled water tested contained carcinogenic amounts of PFAS forever chemicals.. Jill Culora, the spokesperson for, The International Bottled Water Association, a trade group that represents numerous bottled water manufacturers, told consumer reports, "As this study has found, the majority of bottled water does not contain any per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances."
