Another Lawsuit Filed Against a Municipal Drinking Water Treatment Plant For Being Polluted With Forever Chemicals

Water Contamination Lawsuit News

Filing a lawsuit may be the fastest way to hold those responsible for negligently polluting local drinking water supplies

Monday, April 25, 2022 - A class-action drinking water lawsuit was filed the other day in Central New Jersey against the Middlesex Water Company. More than 300,000 area residents may have been affected by PFAS forever chemical-contaminated drinking water. According to MyCentralJersey.com, "customers were notified that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was detected in groundwater samples in excess of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Maximum Contaminant Level standard at the company's Park Avenue Treatment Plant in South Plainfield." As with other toxins, PFAS drinking water chemicals do not break down and can bioaccumulate in the cells and cause cancer. Filing a PFAS drinking water lawsuit is often the best and only way to get satisfaction and hold the guilty parties responsible for their negligence.

Water pollution has been making front-page headlines for more than half a century as rivers, lakes, streams and sometimes municipal drinking water supplies like the ones in Flint Michigan have become undrinkable. Many times our natural water resources are so polluted by industrial discharges that have seeped into the water table that local populations have been forbidden to eat the fish that live in it. Such was the case recently in Bucks County Pennsylvania where the local municipal government filed suit against the manufacturers of firefighting foam for failing to warn them not to wash firefighting foam into the soil. Polluted drinking water has become the norm rather than the exception as people have turned off their taps and turned to bottled water instead. The most heavily polluted areas are those that surround industrial manufacturing plants, airports, and firefighting stations, and most heavily polluted of all, military bases where environmental health concerns often take a back seat to the needs of soldiers tasked with giving their lives in defense of the nation. Millions of families have passed through military installations like the Marine base in Camp Lejeune North Carolina. Thousands of them have developed cancer and their offspring are inflicted with autism and other serious developmental diseases from the water around military bases that are contaminated with PFAS forever chemicals.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) lists cancer; hormone disruption; harm to fetal growth, child development, the immune system, and liver disorders as some of the diseases caused by drinking tap water contaminated with forever chemicals. Veterans that have made it into their senior years have fallen victim to Parkinson's disease, a deadly neurological disorder linked to ingesting low-level industrial and agricultural pollutants. PFAS water contamination is known to affect more than 100 million Americans. Individuals with cancer are looking for answers and could hold the Federal government accountable for failing to protect them. Those responsible for the current water contamination problems of the nation are the makers of firefighting foam, the manufacturers of fast food packaging, and agricultural herbicides and pesticides. If you have lived on or near a military base and you or a family member have developed testicular cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer, you may have reason to file a drinking water lawsuit against the federal government.
