Children Living Near Military Bases and Firefighting Stations Could Be At Risk Of Developing Cancer From The Drinking Water

Municipal and local governments and school boards need to test their drinking water supplies for forever chemicals

Monday, March 7, 2022 - PFAS contaminated water has been causing illnesses including several types of cancer, among US Servicemembers and their families from drinking or bathing in tap water or drinking it in their homes on or near more than 400 military bases scattered throughout the United States. Of the samples, 14 have come back with readings of 10 parts per trillion of PFOA/PFOS, which exceeds the state limit for the chemicals, which have been linked to cancers and other health conditions in humans." County health officials are testing for "PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid). PFOS has been used in stain-resistant fabrics, firefighting foams, food packaging, and other products," TU told readers. Officials from Bucks County Pennsylvania recently filed a lawsuit against the maker of firefighting foam for failing to warn local regulators about the potential for carcinogenic groundwater contamination.
